Welcome back to another active week of weather for the area. Currently, it is 34 degrees in Leesburg with mostly cloudy skies. Some light rain showers are possible tonight into tomorrow morning for certain areas. Current radar image is below.

Winter Weather Advisories have also been issued for areas to the north and west until tomorrow morning. A light glaze of ice is expected for these areas before temperatures will rise and melt it.

Rain will pick up in intensity later tomorrow night (Monday) and continue into Tuesday morning at a steady pace. The high for tomorrow is about 35 while the low will be around 32. Tuesday’s high is expected to be about 42 with a low around 22. Rain should taper off in the morning for the area. There was the potential for this event to be a wintry mix with sleet and freezing rain, but latest guidance has trended much warmer so it will simply be a cold rain. Once the rain clears out on Tuesday, so do the clouds, with mostly sunny conditions expected for the rest of the day. Winds will pick up as the system moves to the coast however, with gusts reaching about 20 mph. Wednesday is looking good, but cold, with a high around 33 and low around 26.

There is a possibility for another freezing rain/sleet event Wednesday night into Thursday, but things could still change this far out, however current forecasted temperatures would support some wintry weather. Any sleet and ice accretion wouldn’t last long, as it seems warm air from the south would overcome the cold air causing any freezing rain to turn into just plain rain, helping to melt any ice on roads and sidewalks. This event should likely just be a nuisance, but still something to watch. Precipitation would start Wednesday night and continue throughout the day on Thursday, before eventually changing to rain Thursday night and ending Friday morning. Thursday will have a high around 36 and low around 33. Friday will be warmer with a high around 42 and partly sunny skies.

Overall, a much less stormy week for our area as temperatures get back into the 40s. This week, much of the Southern Plains gets wintry weather and extreme cold they haven’t seen in decades, as a major winter storm stretches from Texas all the way to Maine. My next post will be Friday afternoon.
