After a Saturday of some intense thunderstorms around the area, and a beautiful low humidity, not super hot, partly sunny day today, this week we return to a hot and dry pattern. Currently, it is 78 degrees in Leesburg with partly cloudy skies. Tonight, expect increasing clouds with a low around 67.

Tomorrow (Monday), it will be relatively dry and mostly sunny with a high around 87, and a low around 68. There is a slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm but overall it will stay dry. Tuesday and Wednesday will be pretty similar to Monday, but just slightly warmer by a degree or two. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high around 89 and a low around 68. Wednesday will also be sunny with a high around 91 and a low around 65. A cold front from the northwest will cause our temperatures to drop down considerably. Again, slight chances for isolated storms on Tuesday and Wednesday but in general it should be pretty dry. Any storms would move quickly and would not likely be severe.

Thursday and Friday continue the warm, sunny, and dry trend! Thursday will have a high around 88 and a low around 66 while Friday will have a high around 90 and a low around 67. Chances are not high for any significant severe weather on these days, but they do increase for next weekend (but only slightly). Next weekend currently looks to be more of the same of what I’ve already said, sunny with highs in the upper 80s. Long-term it looks like we’ll remain relatively dry throughout the rest of the month, but it isn’t very difficult for a storm to drop a couple inches of rain over an area.

If it does feel like it hasn’t rained that much within the last month, overall throughout the area, you’re not wrong. According to drought.gov’s Precipitation Conditions maps, our area has received about 60–75% of normal precipitation within the last 30 days. However, no part of our area is under any sort of drought (parts of southwestern Virginia are under abnormally dry at the moment). At least we are in a much better position than people out West, they really need the rain.

My next post will hopefully be available on Friday afternoon for the weekend ahead.
