NoVA/DC Weather Forecast for the week of March 8

After a chilly weekend and a winter-filled month of February, March is starting out well as this week brings a warming trend with some very nice above average temperatures, as some places will get into the low *70s*. Currently, however, it is 32 degrees in Leesburg with clear skies, and an expected low of about 20. Tomorrow (Monday) the warm air makes its way into the area with sunny skies and a high of around 52. The low will be around 36. On Tuesday the nice weather continues as high pressure moves over the area eventually going off shore with highs in the region in the mid to upper 60s. It will be a bit windy though with wind gusts of 15–20 mph expected. The low Tuesday night will be around 36 and mostly cloudy. By Wednesday morning the clouds give way to more sunny skies with a high near 66. More passing clouds cover the skies in the evening with a low temperature of 47.

Are the upper 60s not warm enough for you? Well, on Thursday and Friday temperatures will continue to rise into the low 70s with mostly sunny skies and cloudy nights as some weak disturbances from the west pass through. Lows for both nights will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. These high temperatures for this time of year are about 15 to 20 degrees above normal. Just for reference, the average high temperature for DC in March is 56.

Looking ahead to next weekend, some rain showers are possible on Saturday as highs fall back down to around average for this time of year. But overall it will still be very nice. It seems that winter really is over, sorry snow lovers. It is always possible for something to happen, and March snow is not that uncommon, especially in recent years. There are some increasing signs for some colder air later in the month, mainly focused for the northeast, but could be something to watch. Don’t count on anything though. Spring is here and summer is not far behind as heat and thunderstorms become the central focus very soon.

My next post will be on Friday afternoon as I take a look at the weekend.
