NoVA/DC Weather Forecast for the week of May 17

Welcome to the start of another week! This past weekend was pretty nice with seasonable temperatures and sunny skies. There were some stray rain showers in some spots earlier, and it was sunny this morning, but clouds have since filled the sky. This week will be much warmer than this weekend and all of last week, as temperatures climb up to *90*. Currently, it is 59 degrees in Leesburg and overcast.

Tonight, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 48. Some moisture in the air can create some fog late tonight into early tomorrow morning, but will burn off quickly due to the sun tomorrow. Tomorrow (Monday) will be partly sunny with a high around 72 and a low around 54. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high around 76 and low around 56. Wednesday will also be mainly sunny (notice a pattern here?) with a high this time of around 83 and a low around 60. Thursday and Friday will also be mostly sunny with highs around 89 and lows around 61 and 63 respectively. A few models are showing cooler temperatures and this is a few days out so the temperature will likely change a bit.

Mother Nature is really taking right into the heat of summer with highs in the upper-80s to low-90s already in mid-May. Next weekend is also currently forecasted to be very hot with temperatures in that range as well, with very little precipitation, if any. There is always the possibility for thunderstorms to develop due to instability in the atmosphere because of temperatures and if moisture is available, and chances look better later in the week. But some drought conditions could develop due to high temperatures and no precipitation, hurting plants and other vegetation.

Across the country, parts of the southeastern U.S. (Texas, Oklahoma, etc.) will see severe thunderstorms and heavy rain with the possibility for some flooding. There is also some fire potential, likely due to high winds, low humidity values, and dry land in Arizona and Utah.

My next post for the weekend will be available on Friday evening. Stay safe and hydrated throughout the week if outside a lot!
