NoVA/DC Weather Forecast for the week of May 3

Hello again! Apologies for some breaks in forecasts. It has been a busy couple of weeks, and there is just a little bit more before I have a lot more time. Hang in there with me.

This past Friday was a very windy one, and wind gusts topped 60 mph in some areas, which is very rare for the month of April.

This week will be a lot less windy, so if anyone did incur some damage or get some items scattered in the backyard, you have plenty of time to clean up. Currently, it is 74 degrees in Leesburg, which is perfect for an evening/late-night walk or run. Tonight, expect increasing clouds as a system from the west moves in to bring us the chance for some rain and thunderstorms tomorrow. The low will be around 64. Tomorrow (Monday) will be mostly cloudy with showers throughout the day, and a high around 74. There is the possibility for some thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening since humidity will be high and the atmosphere will be unstable. The rain and clouds will clear out late evening where it will then be mainly partly cloudy with a low around 64. Tuesday will be hot again like today, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 85, and low around 65. There will be another chance for some thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening due to the heat, causing instability and high humidity.

Another disturbance is possible for Wednesday with some rain showers and thunderstorms due to moisture contents of the air. It will not be as hot on this day, with partly sunny skies and a high around 77 and low around 48. A cold front passing through on Thursday drops the temperature down about 10 degrees to a more seasonable temperature, but is actually below average for May. Both days will be sunny with a high around 65 on Thursday and a high around 62 on Friday. The low for Thursday will be around 46 and the low for Friday will be around 44. Overall, a rollercoaster of temperatures week with multiple chances for rain.

This is not particularly unsurprising for the month of May. Temperature swings are fairly common, and it seems that this pattern will continue, along with the possible thunderstorm chances, through the next couple of weeks. My next post on the weekend will be posted on Friday evening (hopefully).
