It’s time for another weekend post! After a nice week of some cool temperatures, specifically starting on this past Wednesday, the heat returns for this weekend and the week ahead.

Current satellite image

Currently, it is 77 degrees in Leesburg with partly cloudy skies. Clouds will increase in coverage tonight due to a weak low from the south. The low will be around 68. Tomorrow (Saturday) will be a nice day with partly sunny skies and a high around 86. The low will be around 71. High pressure from the south just off the coast will aid in bringing more warm and humid conditions to the area. Sunday will be even warmer with mostly sunny skies, a high around 90, and a low around 72. There is a possibility for some thunderstorms to develop due to the moisture in the air, particularly on Sunday, but instability levels appear to be low so any showers or storms that do develop will not be very intense or last long. Overall, sounds like a nice weekend to go to the pool (or head to the coast for the beach!).

Monday will continue the warm streak, with temperatures rising just a bit more into the mid-90s…which is basically how hot it will be throughout the entirety of next week! Like usual, the humid and hot conditions could always allow for some storms to develop in the afternoon/evening hours.

Tropical update: in the Atlantic, it is fairly quiet. Tropical Storm Claudette last weekend raced through the South exiting by the end of the weekend back into the Atlantic and up to the north. Since then, very little activity. There is a tropical wave off the coast of Africa, but it doesn’t seem anything will really come of it. In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Enrique will pass by the southwestern coast of Mexico as it strengthens into a hurricane, before going further off to the west and weakening.

Meanwhile in other parts of the U.S., a record-breaking heat wave covers much of the West Coast, while some severe storms threaten parts of the Plains and Midwest.

My next post detailing the week ahead will be released on Sunday afternoon.
