After a rainy and dreary week, this weekend looks to be…really more of the same. More rain and lower than average temperatures for the month of May. Currently, it is 48 degrees in Leesburg and mostly cloudy. Tonight, expect clouds to eventually clear with a low around 40.

Current satellite image of clouds over the area.

Saturday will not be too dreary, and actually partly sunny, but with a high only around 59 and a low around 41. There is a chance for some showers in the evening, with maybe a slight chance as well for a thunderstorm depending on instability and moisture in atmosphere, but overall it will be a cold day. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph are expected due to a front moving through. Sunday (Mother’s Day!) will be mainly cloudy with the chance for some rain showers in the afternoon. The high will be around 64, and the low around 59. Monday will actually be the best day in terms of warmth, with a high around 70 and partly sunny, but again with some chances for rain later in the day. Although, we likely will not see severe storms from last Monday, where multiple tornado warnings were issued for around Frederick, MD and points west in West Virginia. An EF-1 tornado was actually confirmed north of Charles Town, WV.

All in all, enjoy the weekend! If you’re looking for more warmth, it doesn’t appear to show up much next week, with highs mainly up and down in the 60s. My next post will be for the week ahead which will be available on Sunday afternoon.
